When came the revolution, for that regime had to fall,
The losers, its supporters, stood there lined up by the wall.
They were grunts and canon fodder, not a single leader bled,
For the people who are weakest are the ones who eat the lead.

When bloggers on the net call someone out for what they've done
The autistic, transfemme furries somehow end up blocked and shunned
While the predatory cis white men are barely brought to mind -
For the people who are weakest are the ones you leave behind.

When you see who's hurt in conflict, the majority is clear:
They're disabled or they're children, they are Black or poor or queer,
And it doesn't even matter that this time the bad guys lost -
For the people who are weakest are the ones who pay the cost.

If you're reaching for a weapon, maybe hang on for a bit.
Punching up still means you're looking for a person you can hit.
If you swing without discretion, in your hatred for your foe,
Then the people who are weakest are the ones who'll take the blow.

I've been diagnosed for a bunch of years now with OCD, pure obsessive. At some point I realized it would be more accurate to say I do have compulsions - mental ones.

Whatever Nathan might have to say about the subject, there is nothing that Harold's life lacks.

Admittedly, he misses Grace. In hindsight, she was right to break up with him. She deserved better. Still, Harold has everything he needs: his work, Nathan’s friendship, and the love of the dog Nathan foisted on him.

Curse Nathan’s inability to leave well enough alone.

The… paid companion… is foisted on Harold much like the dog. Harold wakes up one day to see a beautiful man kneeling beside his bed.

“Hello,” Harold says, at a loss for words. An assassin would probably have acted already, not to mention worn more clothes.

“My name is John,” the man says. He truly is extraordinary. Harold’s eyes helplessly trace the fluid grace he exudes even in complete stillness. “I’m a gift from a friend.”

At that, Harold sits up and snaps, “Don’t be absurd. Gifts are objects. You’re a human being.”

John’s eyes crinkle, so briefly that Harold almost misses it. “My services, then.”

“I hope you’re good at shelving books,” Harold says.

John rises. Agreeably, he says, “I can do that.” Of course he doesn't bother to put on so much as a stitch of clothing first, so that Harold is subjected to a morning of pointedly looking away from John’s form as he stretches to put books away.

[PoI, rinch, rated T. negative body self-image]

John undoes Harold's shirt buttons, grinning as he goes. Beneath him Harold squirms.

"It is possible for me to keep my shirt on," Harold says. John likes how breathless he is already.

"It is," John says. He kisses Harold's neck, enjoying Harold's sigh. "Do you want to?"

"The question in, do you want to?" Harold's voice is carefully neutral.

John undoes another button. "What do you think?" He says, low, a tease and a challenge.

"I think one of us needs to stop answering questions with other questions," Harold says. "And I think you're insane."

this concept has been conceived by [personal profile] takiki16 and [tumblr.com profile] bemusedlybespectacled, then i squeed about it a bunch with [tumblr.com profile] findundergrounddragoutofwater and, well.

so basically the idea is that in the D/s au there's this division - in the original concept it was only a thing for super rich americans, but [tumblr.com profile] findundergrounddragoutofwater and i expanded it to be a general society thing - where subs are divided to upstairs and downstairs subs.

upstairs subs are pretty. they are decorative and highly mannered and presentable. they are status symbols.

downstairs subs take the heavy punishment and do the heavy labor. they are the ones who get shared with other doms/households. they can serve as whipping boys/girls for upstairs subs.

if going for the wider-society thing, one can postulate subs who are sort of "in between", ones that became more common with the rise of the middle class - stairwell subs, who do white collar jobs.

to get fandom-specific, the original idea contained some nice Leverage headcanons, Read more... )

If i could i would just reblog this post.

As it is, i'll steal the relevant bit that [personal profile] staranise quoted:

Why I want a Perfectly Generic Fannish Community to exist on Dreamwidth has a lot to do with my general feelings about Dreamwidth comms, which are based on my observation of multiple cycles of what I'm seeing again currently, and started way back in closed beta: a) there's a rush of new people or activity on DW for some reason; b) people want their fandom/hobby or whatever to have a bigger presence on DW, so they start a very specific community for that specific hobby, and often put a lot of thought into making rules to make it exactly the community they want for their fandom; c) it gets maybe a small burst of activity but not much, and then dies; d) the creator gets discouraged and fades away.

The thing is, you can't get an active community that way on DW. Part of it is that DW simply doesn't have the activity levels to support an active community for small interests - you simply can't get the critical mass for super-specialized comms with DW's activity level. Part of it is that DW doesn't have the infrustructure for people to just stumble onto your community without being led there; if all you do is build it, they won't come.

[...] I had a theory that while most specific-fandom communities just can't get going, a pan-fandom community that took everything could hit critical mass and thrive - in sort of the same spirit that AO3 takes everything, and has thus handily outcompeted all the less comprehensive archives - if it got the right start, and a large enough seed group of users that were interested in keeping in going, and committed mods. And if it did, it would serve a really valuable role on Dreamwidth. Plus I wanted a community like that because I miss active fandom communities, but I don't have enough of an attention span these days to be any use at all in specific-fandom or specific-content-type ones
.

It's been a pretty good year.

Lots of RL stuff happened. )

My creative stats have been low ever since pregnancy started, but I'm slowly starting to write again, and hopefully I'll have more time/energy on my mat leave as well. I'm going to do a lecture in a con during Sukkot about gender-subversive tropes in fic, so that's going to be fun. :D

I hope you guys all have a fantastic following 12 months, and beyond that too. שנה טובה!
